Skylines is a project proposal for the Eden Project North. The work consists of 10 or more large box kites to be flown at night, with electroluminescent wire as their tether strings. The idea is to use the consistent wind which is a feature of the beach / seafront location and is capable of raising a large kite and holding it reasonably stable in the air. By having 10 or more glowing E.L. wires leading up to the kites, the work creates a constantly shifting pattern of light trails as the wind moves the kites to and fro.
The plan was to make the kites in a workshop with volunteers who would then be responsible for flying their own kite as part of a coordinated group. My role would be to run the workshops and direct the kite fliers on the beach to orchestrate the glowing light tails. The resulting documentation would stand in for the work after its performance. This process could be repeated in other locations as desired.
